Syngenta Trefinti™ – Nematicide/Fungicide for Turf & Ornamentals

Product Overview

Trefinti™ is a professional‑grade systemic nematicide and fungicide formulated for turfgrass and ornamental plants, featuring the novel active ingredient cyclobutrifluram. Powered by TYMIRIUM® technology, this solution provides targeted control of plant‑parasitic nematodes and select soilborne and foliar diseases. Its unique chemistry delivers strong activity at low use rates with upward plant movement (acropetal translocation) for improved protection of roots and foliage.

Cyclobutrifluram is classified as an IRAC Group N‑3 nematicide and, when disease control labels are included, contributes to FRAC Group 7 fungicide activity, making Trefinti useful in resistance management programs.

Key Benefits

  • Broad‑Spectrum Nematicide Activity – Controls major plant‑parasitic nematodes in turf and ornamentals.

  • Disease Suppression/Control – Prevents or suppresses select soilborne and foliar diseases.

  • Systemic Protection – Absorbed by roots and translocated upward for comprehensive plant defense.

  • Low Use Rates – Effective control with minimal product per application.

  • Flexible Application – Suitable for broadcast sprays, spot treatments, drenches, and, where labeled, chemigation in ornamentals.

  • Resistance Management – Rotatable mode of action supports integrated nematode/disease programs.

Pests Controlled (Nematodes & Diseases)

Plant‑Parasitic Nematodes

Trefinti controls or suppresses key nematode species that damage roots and reduce turf/ornamental vigor, including:

  • Sting Nematodes

  • Lance Nematodes

  • Root‑Knot Nematodes

  • Ring Nematodes

  • Spiral, Dagger, Sheath Nematodes

  • Other plant‑parasitic nematodes depending on turfgrass/ornamental use site label.

Diseases (Where Labeled)

In addition to nematode control, Trefinti provides preventative or suppressive activity against select diseases in turf and ornamentals, such as:

  • Spring Dead Spot

  • Mini‑Ring and Leaf & Sheath Spot

  • Take‑All Root Rot

  • Fairy Ring

  • Powdery Mildew

  • Fusarium spp.

  • Some Cercospora, Alternaria, and Botrytis species (suppression in ornamentals).

Application Rates & Timing

(Always consult the specific product label for full crop/site use and state approvals.)

Turf Applications

  • Broadcast nematode control:
    3.8 – 7.6 fl oz per acre (≈ 0.087 – 0.174 fl oz per 1,000 sq. ft.)

  • Water volume: Apply in 1 – 5 gallons per 1,000 sq. ft.

  • Irrigation: Apply 0.1 – 0.5 inches of water within 24 hours to move the product into the root zone.

  • Interval: Reapply every 14 – 28 days as needed.

  • Maximum annual turf rate: 15.2 fl oz per acre per calendar year

Ornamental Applications

  • Drench applications: Typically 3.8 – 6.4 fl oz per 100 gallons of water.

  • Soil broadcast: 3.8- 6.4 fl oz per acre.

  • Application intervals: Follow label guidance (commonly 14 days minimum between applications).

Use Restrictions

  • Do not exceed the maximum annual application rate on turf and ornamentals as stated on the label.

  • Follow all site‑specific uses and directions; not all pest/disease claims are labeled in every state.

  • Avoid applications during active bloom to protect pollinators when petals are present.

  • Not for use on food crops unless the label specifically permits such use; ornamental labels typically restrict food uses.

Safety & Handling

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear long‑sleeved shirt, long pants, chemical‑resistant gloves, shoes and socks as required by label.

  • Restricted Entry Interval (REI): Typically 12 hours for treated areas; follow current label directions.

  • Hazard Information:
May be harmful if absorbed through skin; can cause moderate eye irritation.
Handle with care to minimize exposure.

  • Environmental Precautions: Avoid runoff into water bodies; follow label restrictions to protect aquatic organisms and non‑target species.

  • Storage & Disposal: Store in original container in a cool, dry, locked area away from incompatible materials. Dispose of containers according to label instructions.
